The Civic Historical Museum is the ideal place to discover the history of Palmanova and the evolution of its fortification system. Housed inside Palazzo Trevisan, the museum preserves documents, maps, weapons, drawings and historical artefacts that tell the story of life under Venetian, Napoleonic and Austrian rule. Among the most fascinating objects on display is a 17th-century iron chest equipped with an ingenious and highly sophisticated locking mechanism.
